How to Find the Cheapest Flights (Without 40 Tabs Open)

The flight is usually the biggest single cost of a trip and the one most people overpay on. Not because they're careless — because the price moves for reasons that aren't obvious, and half the "hacks" online are nonsense. Here's what genuinely works.

What actually moves the price

1. The day you fly, not the day you book

The old "book exactly 8 weeks out on a Tuesday" advice is a myth — airlines price dynamically now. What still holds: mid-week departures (Tue/Wed/Thu) are usually cheaper than Friday–Sunday, and the difference is often €50–100 per person. If your dates have any give, this is the single biggest lever.

2. Flexibility beats loyalty

Being flexible by even ±3 days routinely beats hunting a specific date. The cheapest departure in a given week can be less than half the most expensive — same route, same airline. If you can shift, shifting wins.

3. Nearby airports

Flying into a secondary airport (or out of one near you) can undercut the "obvious" route significantly, especially with low-cost carriers. Worth a look before you commit.

What's mostly a myth

  • Incognito mode makes flights cheaper. No. Prices aren't personalised to your cookies in any meaningful way. Skip the ritual.
  • There's one magic cheapest day to book. There isn't. Prices drift; there's no universal sweet spot.
  • Budget airlines are always cheaper. Once you add bags and seats, sometimes the full-service fare wins. Compare the total, not the headline.

The honest catch

All of the above means opening a lot of tabs, scanning date grids, and comparing sellers — for one trip. It's exactly the fiddly, repetitive work people give up on halfway through and just book the first decent fare.

That's the part we automate. When you build a guide, we scan a spread of departure days around your dates, find the cheapest window, and show you the price by day plus which seller is cheapest — so you see the €200 fare next to the €280 one and pick with your eyes open. No tabs required.

Try it with your real dates and see the spread for yourself — pick any destination to start.
